Acetylspiramycin is a macrolide antimicrobial agent with activity against gram-positive organisms, including Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococci), S. viridans, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus. Increasing resistance has left Acetylspiramycin with inconsistent activity against S. pneumoniae and enterococcus. Acetylspiramycin also has activity against some gram-negative bacteria, such as Neisseria meningitidis , Bordetella pertussis , and Campylobacter . Neisseria gonorrhoeae is inconsistently sensitive, and approximately 50% of Haemophilus influenzae strains are sensitive to Acetylspiramycin. Clostridium species are sensitive; however, Enterobacteraceae, Pseudomonas species, as well as Bacteroides fragilis, and most other gram-negative bacteria are resistant. Acetylspiramycin also has activity against other organisms, including Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Toxoplasma gondii, Legionella pneumophila, and spirochetes.
As Macrolide antibiotics Acetylspiramycin is effective against Gram-positive bacteria and part of Gram-negative bacteria, such as staphylococcus, pneumobacillus, streplococcus, gonotoxin, plococcus meningitids and Acetylspiramycin is also used in treating infections caused by spirochete, rickellsial disease, etc. The penicillin- and erythromycin-resistant staphylococcus is sensitive to acetylspiramycin. Acetylspiramycin is used in treating pneumonia, pulmonary abscess, bronchitis, purulent tonsillitis, sphagitis, mammitis, urethritis, tympanitis, and skin soft tissue infection, etc. Standard: In compliance with CP2000 Section II.
